Eastern Sierra Fall Color Update II

Previously, I did an update of the Fall Colors around Bishop from my travels of the area over the past two days.  Today was the last day in the Eastern Sierra and a few more updates on additional areas:

  • Rock Creek: highest elevations close to peak or past, many trees loosing leave up near Mosquito Flat.  Half way up the creek the yellows appear to be shift toward orange, might be peak orange with some reds in few days (assuming current weather holds, which reports are a cold front will move through soon).  Rock Creek Lake has a few patch of bright orange and reds with mostly yellows.
  • June Lake Loop: There is really no color yet at June Lake Loop, everything is still green with only a few small patches of yellow starting to form on groves higher up southern slopes.  Depending on the weather, this could be the place to visit in a week or two.
  • Tioga Pass: On the climb up to Tioga Pass, where 120 does the major switch back there is a nice grove of trees that straddle the highway that have the entire color range: green, yellow, orange, red.  If you descending down toward Lee Vining, you wouldn’t really see these trees.  However, when ascending toward the pass they are hard to miss.

This weekend was a great weekend for Bishop Creek fall color.  Look for photos from the trip over the course of the week.

  1. Thanks for the update! Sounds like a beautiful fall weekend in the Sierra. I’m looking forward to 2 weeks from now, when I can finally squeeze a trip in!

Other than it being a bit hot down in Bishop, it was a great weekend. I’m on the fence regarding making another run up there in two weekends myself. Who knows, we may run into each other up there…
