@Jack Graham, I'm envious of your week and a half in the Eastern Sierra! There is strong likely hood that I'll be back up in the area (Bridgeport down to Bishop) the 9th - 11th of October, color still willing. If you're still in the area we should try to meet up.

@Diane Knauff, Yes, North Lake was definitely at it's peak last weekend. While it was a challenge to fight the snooze button when the alarm went off, being up at the lake with pure silence before the rest of the world awoke was something to experience. At least until the ducks woke up and started creating ripples in the lake... :-)

@Mark Graf, Thanks, I really like that early morning shot as well. I wouldn't have been able to get that wide of angle if it wasn't for the 16-35mm F/2.8 lens that I rented from BorrowLenses specifically for this trip. The wide angle made a huge difference for the dramatic landscapes!

When you told me you were up before sunrise to take photos, I thought you were nuts but now that I've seen the photo...all I have to say is "STUNNING". I'm particularly drawn to the "river of color" in the distance and the angle of the shot, showing the expanse of the lake.

Wonderful images Gary....and the information is very useful. I’ll be spending about a week & one half ( and leading a workshop) in the area in the coming days and your information is very timely. Maybe we’ll run into each other?
Thanks again

Thanks Phil! The first ones were really to give a sense of the foliage based upon my previous update posts. That last one is one of my favorites from North Lake. Captured about 15 minutes before sun broke on the peaks. Sad (lucky?) thing is that there was only my group and one other group of photographers that was up there that early for the faint alpine glow. Once sunrise was upon us, there were 20+ photographers. It was quite a site...no matter which direction you looked!

Greg, nice images, especially the composition of the last one the best, with the foreground rocks.
