Wildfire Flare Up at Lassen

2005 Horseshoe Wildfire at Lassen Volcanic National Park

Back in October of 2005, my wife and I did a driving trip looping around California.  The northern most part of that loop was Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California.  While we were there the park rangers warned us about a wildfire in the eastern edge of the park, near Horseshoe Lake.  During our first day in the park we found ourselves driving back to our lodging well past nightfall and on one stretch of the road the wildfire presented itself.

The yellow speck is a rather large flareup about 6 miles away.  Luckily for me (photographically) there was a full moon that night and it helped to illuminate the smoke drifting through the valley near the lake.

You can see more images in my Lassen Volcanic National Park gallery in the Archive.
