Enjoying a moment of holiday solitude sitting by the backyard fire pit.

As the end of the year approaches, taking time out to review the year and plan for the one ahead is an important part of my routine.  And I’ve found myself doing this more sitting in my back yard.  The big project of the past year was a re-landscaping of our back yard to produce an environment for gathering with friends and family and to have a place for the kids to play outside.  One of the cornerstones of the yard has become the fire pit we had installed.  Once the kids go to bed (and lately, assuming it’s not raining), it’s the prefect place for some backyard solitude.  Adding a few holiday lights and it’s the perfect place to practice my annual routine.
