Aire Race Day

Yesterday, I headed up to Reno with a friend to attend the Reno Air Races. This is my first time at the races and it’s quite an experience. Luckily, we were able to get hooked up with Pit Passes which allows us to wander around the pits and get up close to the race planes. At the end of the day, as the sun starts to get low in the western sky the light is perfect for close up shots of the planes. There are also numerous vendors who have displays and aircraft on display. It’s great to be able to get up close next to some of the latest private jets and planes on the market.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a fast connection while at the airfield (I don’t have a press pass…) so updates from the field will be limited as I’m working off my low bandwidth cell phone. I have a gallery for the 2007 Reno Air Races up on the website and will upload highlights as I can. I’ll also try to get into town to upload larger batches at some point.

While I can’t claim to be a air race old timer (this is my rookie race), the guys that I’m hanging out with up here all are. I get a kick out of listening to them complain about how the prices of admission/parking/etc. — they have been doing this for 20-30 years and things definitely have changed over that time. Listening to the stories and have access to the pits is great thought! A few of the guys at our camp site are even assisting as crew members on a few of the planes (it’s one big family up here) so I’m hoping I might get some up close photos of them in action.

If anyone else is up at the air races, let me know or try to find me!
