Photo: Grand View of Sunset

Some of my regular San Francisco based readers will recognize this view…it’s one of the many hidden parks in San Francisco that photographer Jim Goldestein shared with me a while back. I was passing on the secret to a few other photographer friends of mine from southern parts of the Bay Area on a recent crystal clear day we had here in San Francisco. No gorgeous clouds or encompassing fog for me this time around. However, I still love the multiple layers of this image: from the bath leading you into the image to the city to the Golden Gate Bridge peaking out over the hill.

Photo: Old Salior Memorial Series

This memorial statue to the local fishermen of Eureka, CA caught my attention during my sunrise photo shoot a few weeks back. As the sun just peaked over the horizon and light up the statue, there was something about the texture of the statue and then the symbolism with it’s surrounding. Even with the power plant appearing out of the morning fog, the juxtaposition of the old industry and new industry was very striking.

Photo: Early Morning Sculling

My early morning wake up call in Eureka, California a few weeks back greeted me with a sculling club that was out on Humboldt Bay before sunrise. With the early morning fog, pre-dawn glow in the sky, and the harbor as a backdrop how could I resist? (I actually spotted them from a bridge and was lucky enough to turn around and find my way down to the waterfront before sunrise…)
