Photo: Out of the Darkness


This is my favorite photo from my collection of images of the Point Reyes Lighthouse. I just love the way the light goes from pitch black into the pools of light provided by the lighthouse. Because the Rangers don’t actually turn on the rotation of the light, this image was easy to capture with the longish exposure. Amazing thing is that I didn’t have my tripod with during this visit so I took this resting the camera on the railing of the stairs that lead down to the lighthouse…

I played around briefly with this same image as a black and white, but it didn’t feel right. Something about the initial tone curves lost the pitch blackness of the photo. I might play around with this more in the future…time will tell.
