The Bay Area has three predominant peaks: Mount Tamalpais (Mount Tam) in Marin, Mound Diablo in the East Bay near Walnut Creek, and Mount Hamilton in the South Bay near San Jose. Mount Diablo is in my backyard, but on this particular morning I got up early to head to Marin for a morning photo excursion. Since it was socked in with fog at the lower elevations, I drove up toward the top of Mount Tam and eventually cleared the fog layer. Within a matter of a mile up the road the temperature went from 55 degrees and foggy to 75 degrees and sunny (love the Bay Area micro climates!).
The tree’s silhouetted in the foreground of this photo are on the slope of Mount Tam. In the distance is the silhouette of Mount Diablo, about 35 miles line of sight.
Part of my Mount Tamalpais gallery.
